能说出 first life / first insects / first land animals / first reptiles / dinosaurs / humans 分别出现在哪个 era 或 period
挑战分级练习 L1→L2→L3(约 1 小时)
看 视频 "4.5 Billion Years in 1 Hour"(B 站 / YouTube,PPT 第 12 页有链接)
Cenozoic Era
First land animals = Silurian;First reptiles = Permian
高频 "How do we know it didn't kill everything?"
易混 Eon ≠ Era(差一个字母,但 Eon > Era)
Era
L2 The Big Bang:
Earth 形成于 4.5 Bya(45 亿年前)
First living cells 出现于 3.5 Bya(35 亿年前)
仍然属于 Physical Geography(早期生命也归 Physical,因为 it exists without humans)

地球大约 4.5–4.6 billion years old(45–46 亿岁)。
If the history of Earth is 5cm, where would you put the first…"
Single cell organisms
3.5 Bya
0.6 cm(开头很早)
Plants (on land)
~470 Mya
4.5 cm(末尾)
Fish 鱼
~525 Mya
4.4 cm(末尾)
Dinosaurs
~230 Mya
4.75 cm(末尾的末尾)
Humans 人类
~0.3 Mya
4.997 cm(末尾末尾末尾)
Geological Timeline?
A geological timeline is a scale used to divide Earth's history into units of time.
它帮我们追踪 ① how Earth has changed(地球如何变化)和 ② how life has evolved(生命如何演化)。

💀 Mass Extinction(大规模灭绝)
A mass extinction is an event that kills most species in a short period of time.
✅ Humans appear in the Cenozoic Era. More precisely, modern humans (Homo sapiens) first appeared about 300,000 years ago during the Pleistocene Epoch of the Quaternary Period.
📝 Full Sentences(第 8 题,重要)
8a. The Permian mass extinction killed about 95% of all living things. How do we know it didn't kill everything?
✅ We know it didn't kill everything because:
① We are here —— life continues today, so something must have survived.
② Fossil evidence shows species that lived before Permian also appear in rocks after Permian (with gaps in between). This means their populations dropped to near-zero but recovered.
③ The mass extinction only killed 95%, leaving 5% alive — these survivors evolved into all later life forms, including dinosaurs and eventually mammals and humans.
8b. After the Hadean Eon, why do you think life was able to form?
✅ After the Hadean Eon, life was able to form because:
① The Earth's surface had cooled down. During Hadean, the surface was so hot that water couldn't stay liquid.
② Oceans had formed, providing liquid water — essential for chemical reactions that create life.
③ The frequency of asteroid impacts decreased dramatically after Hadean, so the environment was no longer being constantly destroyed.
④ The atmosphere had changed — gases like methane and ammonia could now stably exist, providing the compounds (回扣 L2 meteorite 带 compounds) that life needed.
例题:How many million years ago did the first insects appear?
About 300 million years ago."
❓ 题型 4:Why do you think 推理题
例题:Why do you think life was able to form after the Hadean Eon?
用 "because" 开头
Life was able to form because the Earth had cooled enough for liquid water, oceans had formed, and asteroid impacts had decreased."
🦴 题型 5:How do we know 证据题
例题:How do we know the Permian mass extinction did not kill everything?
We know because..."
We know because fossil evidence shows that some species existed both before and after the Permian extinction — their populations dropped but recovered. Plus, life continues today, so something survived."
